For its South Florida “Farewell” appearance, the fabled Tokyo String Quartet will offer Beethoven’s “Serioso” Quartet, Bartok’s darkly elegiac Quartet No. 6 and Mendelssohn’s Quartet in E minor, Op. 44, No. 2. Regarded as one of the supreme chamber ensembles of the world, the quartet is disbanding in June after an extraordinary 44-year history. It performs on the “Paganini Quartet,” a group of renowned Stradivarius instruments owned by legendary 19th century violinist Niccolo Paganini.
